Time to consider an equality and diversity led recruitment solution?

In an article published today on Personnel Today, it was revealed that the number of age discrimination claims accepted by employment tribunals in 2010-11 has risen by nearly one-third (30.8%) to 6,800, according to Tribunals Service statistics.

The overall stats actually show a decrease of 8% in the actual number of claims that have been made this year but this is still up 44% compared to 2008-2009.

It is statistics like these which have prompted businesses across all industries to consider their recruitment process and the tools available to support an equality and diversity led process which ensures that candidates are selected purely on their suitability to the role.

Over 3 years ago, networx worked alongside several clients who wished to adopt such a process and as a result  have developed a highly effective solution that reflects the specific needs of businesses to support efforts to deliver a discrimination free recruitment process.

Today this technology is used by a large number of businesses both within the public and private sector and plays a instrumental role within their business.

So what does the technology allow business to do?

  • Advertise vacancies online   - with a dedicated careers section on your website, you can centralise all sourcing methods to deliver a uniformed application process to each and every applicant. With a simple means to update vacancy information, your website will become a source of up to date information regarding employment opportunities.

  • Upload supportive documents - ensuring all candidates are presented with an equal opportunity to apply, all adverts are supported with additional documentation which provides candidates with all the information they require to submit their application.

  • Supports both online and paper based applications - With an online application form designed to mirror the exact look and feel of your paper based applications, the way candidates apply is identical. Upon receipt of applications, our simple upload facility ensures that all applications can be sifted using the latest technology.

  • Database of Job Descriptions and Person Specifications -   A database of easily editable Job descriptions and Person Specifications not only to ensure consistency throughout roles being advertised but also help speed up the posting process too.

  • Restrict access to confidential monitoring information - In order to ensure that selection decisions are made purely on the candidates suitability for the role, all personal details are removed and unique reference numbers automatically assigned.

  • Support Panel Sifting - whether your panel wishes to sift in the more traditional offline manner or use our sophisticated online sifting tools, HR can utilise real time overviews to assess the progress of shortlisting decisions.

  • Obtain key information to support equality & diversity policies - Equal Opportunity Monitoring and the use of our comprehensive reporting suite helps you collate the key information you require to support equality & diversity policies.

Sounds like wishful thinking to me - what industry wants is cheap labour that they can shed when not needed - hence the agencies and use of migrant labour. But, of course, someone is trying to sell you a system so you can appear to comply with legislation.

Hi Ken
The system was actually created by request from some of our Housing Association clients. By engaging them from the start our technology was built to reflect their specific processes and to support equality and diversity policies which they have in place. We currently have over 80 clients using this particular system.
Whilst cheap labour may be a leading priority for some I dont think it is for the majority. The Agency Workers Legislation will definitely have an impact on those who do tend to adopt this approach.
