PPC Advertising - the new source of candidates?

Pay per click advertising has long been a major source of traffic for online job boards, but with the implementation of more sophisticated corporate careers websites and online application processes this cost effective platform is now being engaged by leading companies.

The opportunity provided by cost per click, especially given the rise of such functionality on social media i.e. Facebook and LinkedIn, is one that networx are actively engaging on behalf of our clients.

Google Search Engine - As the largest search engine, the potential audience provided by Google is immense. However the fact that campaigns are designed to actively target individuals as they search for roles similar to those you are advertising ensures this is a highly targetted approach too. Through the creation of multiple adverts for each campaign and the available analytics, businesses can quickly identify key words which help drive individuals through to their site. Armed with a thorough understanding of what works Google can progressively become a more and more cost effective sourcing tool for businesses.

Facebook Advertising - with the option to target individuals according to location and their level of education, Facebook is an ideally suited platform increasingly being utilised to help
support the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and trainnee positions.  Facebook however is more reliant on the actual information imputted by users, so a comprehensive understanding of how to ensure vacancies are exposed to the largest possible targetted audience is a key driver in the return in investement received.

LinkedIn Advertising - utilised agressively by recruiters, Linkedin is considered by many as the number one recruitment tool which is set to replace the more traditional job boards. For the majority however the effectiveness of this platform relies on the size of your network and the level of exposure this can offer.
LinkedIn Advertising ( CPC) is a simple and easy way to ensure your message reaches your intended audience. Without the need to send inmails and ensuring the accuracy of the match between your vacancy and the people you wish to target!

Combining the efficiency of all 3 CPC ( cost per click) platforms this is an ideal alternative method of recruitment currently being adopted by businesses throughout the Uk.

Have you thought of this as an option to support your recruitment? Talk to us... innovate@networxrecruitment.com

Are you LinkedIn? - 10 Top Tips

Linkedin - the "business related social networking site"- now boasts over 150 million members of which 8 million of them are within the UK.

As membership of the worlds largest professional network continues to grow at a staggering 2 members per second it not suprising that HR departments are increasingly looking at ways to tap into this significant pool of potential talent.

networx has run several events to help support businesses utilise Linkedin in the right way the most recent due to be held on March 29th at Ramada Sutton Coldfield.

The event is designed to offer HR professionals with the information they need to engage with the platform as part of their recruitment strategy. This of course all stems from the development of your profile and how you present yourself to your network.

Whilst the purpose of being on LinkedIn varies significantly we have come up with 10 key considerations for creating the perfect profile.

1.       TAKE THE “RIGHT” PICTURE

Including a picture on your profile is proven to increase the number of views your profile receives. In line with LinkedIn's guidelines your picture should ideally be a head and shoulder shot of you only. (No logos, no sunglasses and no caricatures). Obviously the photograph should be representative of your professional position and preferably one that you will be happy to use for a length of time.

2.       HEADLINE

Whilst this field is limited to 130 characters it can be used to great effect. If you don’t enter anything in this field it will be automatically default to your job title which often doesn’t mean anything to anyone outside of your business. Use this opportunity to actually tell people what you do.  Some people also choose to display their surname in this section as this enables people to identify you even if you are a 3rd tier connection or outside the network.

3.       SUMMARY

This is an opportunity to tell people a little bit about you as a person. If you are using your profile for business purposes it is obviously worthwhile to include some information about the business too but don’t forget this is YOUR profile and people want to know about you! This is also a great opportunity for you to use different phrases and terms within your profile to ensure that you come up in relevant searches. This can also be replicated within the Specialities section.

4.       MAKING CONNECTIONS

There are several approaches to making connections which will be determined according to your reason for being on LinkedIn. Whether you choose to adopt a more the merrier approach or a more selective connection strategy, if you wish to make a connection to people who you don’t particularly know in the business sense we would recommend you always invite someone using the ‘we’ve done business’ option – unless you a member of the same group of course!

HOWEVER ......If you are looking to use LinkedIn as a recruitment tool then considering who to connect with becomes even more important. Do you really want to connect to Recruiters and share your connections or be bombarded for every role you share? Equally do you want to be contacted directly by potential candidates?

5.  GROUP MEMBERSHIP

You can only become a member of up to 50 groups so picking the most effective groups out of the 650,000+ available can be a daunting exercise.  A quick and easy way to identify the membership of those groups which could be of interest is too look at the membership of your connections. A full list of groups can be found at the bottom of everyone’s profile ( unless they choose not to display them!) .  Whilst most group members tend to be observers, the way to get maximum benefit out of these platforms is to have a presence! Post discussions, share knowledge and interact!

PS -  If you dont want to inundated with update emails for all 50 groups, make sure you  amend you amended so that you only receive updates from selected groups. Digest emails can be  set according to the following frequencies - Daily, Weekly and No Email. Obviously we advise you keep the notifications on for HOT HR.

6. ACCOUNT SETTINGS

Within your account settings there are a number of options which you can choose which relate to your profile, email settings, groups and your account. In order to access you setting simply hover over your name at the top right hand side and select settings.

In here you can control a wide variety of options such as:- who see's your activity broadcasts, what others see when you have viewed their profile, connection visibility and who can send you invitations.

7. RECOMMENDATIONS

Obtaining 3 recommendations is the only way that you can get your profile to 100% complete.  Being 100% does not offer you any further functionality but by completeing all sections will undoubtedly increase your visibility.  Please be aware of back to back recommendations. The way Linkedin works you are actively encouraged to provide a recommendation back to the person who has recommended you. If you do wish to recommend the person please leave it a while. Credibility can be lost instantly when a connections wall reads, Pat Recommended Paul and then Paul Recommended Pat.

8. CONTACT INFO

Your strategy for being on LinkedIn will determine whether or not you wish to include your contact details. For example, a sales representative should provide interested parties with every opportunity to contact them, whilst others may prefer to only share their contact information with connections.

Providing information such as your full name and email address in the summary section of your profile is generally enough for most. By doing this people outside your 3rd tier can view your full name and if they wish to contact with you they have your email address to do so. How you respond to that email will again be determined by your strategy.

9. LINKING TO TWITTER

Whilst there is a quick and easy option to add your twitter profile to your Linkedin Account consideration needs to be given to whether the two profiles should be joined. Consider the type of language you utilise, who you are addressing etc. If you utilise LinkedIn in a professional manner and you use Twitter more as a social platform then generally to link the two can be detrimental.

10. WEBSITES

You can include 3 links to websites on your profile. Instead of choosing MY Website etc you can select other and change the title to give extra meaning to people looking at your profile. To do this simpley click edit profile and select other in the the website drop down box.

The above 10 points are designed to provide you with an insight into the wealth of functionality available on LinkedIn. Should you wish to learn more then please contact us. We are currently offering FREE face to face presentations to companies across the UK.

National Apprentice Week - time to consider an alternative?

This week, (Monday 6th - Friday 10th February) is National Apprentice Week.

Over 130,000 employers in England offer apprenticeships which last year this accounted for over 685,000 apprentices. This figure shows a 58% increase compared to the 2009/2010 academic year. Such a significant rise is not only great news for young people looking to start their career but businesses alike.

Looking to kick start your career with an apprenticeship?: https://apprenticeshipvacancymatchingservice.lsc.gov.uk/navms/forms/Vacancy/SearchVacancy.aspx
Businesses conducting Apprenticeships can benefit from a multitude of factors such as the ability to fill skills gaps, improving your bottom line and motivate your workforce. However for some businesses the need to release employees for training can often prove inconvenient or even detrimental to the apprentice.

As an end to end solutions provider, networx is continously looking for the opportunity to develop strategic opartnerships with leading businesses who can offer support to our clients. Our latest partnership is designed to offer clients who conduct apprenticeships ( or are looking to )with an highly beneficial alternative method.

Virtual College are an online training provider who have delivered e-learning courses to individuals and businesses for over 15 years. The web enabled courses they offer are designed to reflect the specific needs of businesses and break down the boundaries of traditional learning.

Their unique apprenticeship schemes offer a wide range of benefits to businesses which are predominantly delivered through the flexibility of learning online.

Without the need to relase an apprentice on a specific day every week, this offers the client with the option to allow training to be conducted around the requirements of the role. For example: if a business is experiencing high volumes or has a set deadline to meet, the apprentice can be there to help. The business benefits from the extra support and the apprentice benefits from valuable on the job experience.

The fact that it is online ensures that businesses can easily keep track and monitor the progress that is being made.

If you think that your business would benefit from a tailored online apprentice course then please visit our partners page:
